A STARTING POINT
Succession planning
Decide what the family needs before choosing how assets should pass on.
A PLANNING QUESTION
A home for the children. A place for the parents to live.
A family may want the same property to serve more than one purpose. Before considering a change in ownership, I help clarify the parents’ housing needs, the children’s responsibilities and the money needed for care. The timing of any transfer is a separate question to resolve.
Who needs what?
Identify the people who depend on the assets, the people expected to take over, and anyone who would help manage them. These roles may belong to different people.
What is already arranged?
Review ownership records, insurance details, existing wills or other relevant documents. Note what is confirmed and what still needs clarification.
What needs specialist advice?
Once the family’s priorities are clear, identify questions about legal documents, tax treatment or implementation that need input from the relevant professionals.
Where we can begin
For an initial conversation, bring one question you want to discuss. If we continue, a basic asset list and a record of existing arrangements can help organize the next review.
